Violent Crimes in General

Rape / Sexual Assault
- Every hour 16 women confront rapists.
- A woman is raped every 4.5 minutes.
- 42% of rape victims tell no one.
- Only 5% of all sexual assaults are reported to law
enforcement.
- 58% of sexual assaults are not reported by the victims
to either law enforcement or crisis centers.
- 78% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the
victim knows.
- 42% of sexual assaults occur inside the victim's home.
- 3 out of 7 women who are sexually assaulted, are
assaulted by multiple assailants.
- 22% of sexual predators assault an average of 7 victims before they are caught and convicted.
- Only 2% of all sexual assaults result in the
assailant(s) being convicted and imprisoned.

Great Britain (UK), nearly 4 times higher than Germany,

Violent Assault & Battering
- A women is beaten by her spouse every 9 seconds.
- 3 to 4 million women are battered each year.
- More than 1 million women seek medical assistance for
injuries caused by battering each year.
- Females are approximately 75% of the victims of intimate
murders and about 85% of the victims of non-lethal
intimate violence.
- Women age 16 to 24 experience the highest per capita
rate of intimate violence.
As common as they are disturbing, sexual assaults against women are on the rise.
Sexual assaults remain the most under-reported cases in the criminal justice system.
